Illustrative examples of situations when World of Hyatt points are worth buying

If you have an upcoming stay at a Hyatt property where the cash rates during your intended period of stay are high, it is worth taking a look at the award night prices and do the math to find out if there will be any savings from buying points during a points sale.

Using an aspirational Hyatt property, Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort, a category 8 property as an example:

As shown above, assuming that you are looking at booking a suite, the lowest rate costs USD 2,231.14 (taxes inclusive) for a one-night stay in an Andaz Suite. If you were to purchase points at USD 0.0168 per point instead (rate of current World of Hyatt points sale) for an award night during the same period; at 61,000 points for one night, your total cost would be USD 1,024.80 (61,000 X 0.0168) instead which represents a huge savings of USD 1,206.34 (54.07% savings)!

Using another popular hotel, Park Hyatt Milan, a category 8 property as another example to illustrate further:

The cheapest available rate for a one-night stay over the selected period is the “Member Rate”, which costs a total of approximately USD 1,090. At a total rate of 40,000 points per night, an award night funded by points costing USD 0.0168 each (rate of current World of Hyatt points sale) would cost a total of USD 672, a savings of USD 418 (38.3% savings) a night!

Conclusion

The 30% discount offered during this points sale is the best from World of Hyatt. If you have upcoming travel plans with a stay at an expensive Hyatt property, it is worth taking some time to work out if buying points for an award redemption would be a better deal.

As always, you should not buy points speculatively without an award redemption in mind as World of Hyatt’s award chart changes yearly and a devaluation (like the one we saw earlier this year for some properties) can occur. World of Hyatt has frequent point sales as well so there is no need to stock up points in advance.
