It has been a year since we started our monthly updates on new luxury hotel openings! As usual, in this month’s new hotel roundups, we will be sharing with our readers five new boutique and luxury hotels that have opened around the globe in October 2022.
Pendry Washington DC – The Wharf
Welcoming its first guests on 26 October 2022, Pendry Washington DC – The Wharf is the seventh hotel in Pendry Hotels & Resorts’ portfolio.
Location
Located on Washington D.C.’s waterfront harbor, Pendry Washington DC – The Wharf offers a great view of the Potomac River and is near a number of the city’s attractions, with the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Hirshhorn Museum, and Thomas Jefferson Memorial within walking distance from the hotel.
The closest metro station from the hotel is L’Enfant Plaza Station on the Blue, Green, Orange, and Silver lines.
Rooms and Suites
The hotel features 131 guest rooms and suites as follows:
Accessible rooms are available for River View King Room, River View Queen Queen Room, and One Bedroom Suite room types.
Restaurants and Facilities
Pendry Washington DC – The Wharf has three dining venues. Flora Flora is the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant which features Latin American cuisine outside breakfast hours. Moonraker is a Japanese restaurant and Bar Pendry is the hotel’s lobby bar.
The hotel has a pool, a 24-hour fitness centre, and a spa.

Banyan Tree AlUla
Making its debut in Saudi Arabia, Banyan Tree AlUla opened its doors on 23 October 2022.
Location
The resort is situated in the historic city of AlUla, where guests can partake in activities such as rock climbing, trekking, and stargazing.
Tourist attractions nearby include the old town of Al-’Ula, Jabal Alil (Elephant Rock), Mahib Al Naaqa, and Jabal Ikmah. The famous Madain Saleh, a UNESCO world heritage site is a quick twenty mins drive away.
The closest airport from the resort is Prince Abdul Majeed Bin Abdulaziz-Mogayla Airport (ULH) which is about fifty-five minutes by car.

Banyan Tree AlUla has two dining establishments within its premises. Saffron is a Thai restaurant that is open for dinner while Harrat is the resort’s all-day dining restaurant.
The resort’s facilities include an outdoor rock pool, a gym, and a spa.

Banyan Tree AlUla is part of Banyan Tree which has a partnership with Accor, and Accor points can be redeemed in blocks of 2000 points to offset 40 Euros from the bill.
JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort Suites
Opened on 3 October 2022 next to its sister property, JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort & Spa, and sharing some of its facilities, JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort Suites is an all-suite property that is family orientated.
Location
JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort Suites is nestled near the beachfront and is an hour’s drive north of Phuket. The property offers a variety of activities, including an aqua fun park with a wave pool, water trampoline, and water slide, jungle trekking, Phang Nga bay tours, and temple tours.
Phuket International Airport (HKT) is the nearest airport to the resort and is an hour and fifteen-minute drive away.

JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort Suites has eleven dining outlets which are all shared with its sister property. These include Waterfront, the resort’s all-day dining restaurant, Olive, Ta-Krai, and Sakura, an Italian, Thai, and Japanese restaurant respectively. Drift Beach Bar & Grill opens next month and serves Mediterranean cuisine while Sala is a poolside restaurant. There is also a Deli and four bars within the resort’s premises.
Facilities at JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort Suites include an outdoor lagoon pool, a 24-hour fitness gym as well as a spa which are shared with its sister property as well.

Prices start from USD 269 per night (taxes inclusive).
Marriott no longer has a fixed award chart and an award night starts from 41,000 points.
Fuji Speedway Hotel – The Unbound Collection by Hyatt
Fuji Speedway Hotel – The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, the first property under Hyatt’s The Unbound Collection portfolio in Japan opened on 7 October 2022.
Location
Next to the Fuji Speedway motor racing circuit with a view of Mount Fuji, the hotel houses the Fuji Motorsports Museum which showcases forty racing cars from around the world. Attractions near the hotel include APG Auto Paradise Gotemba, a go-kart track; Fuji Gotemba Distillery, the world’s largest distillery; as well as Mount Fuji and its surrounding attractions.
Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport (FSZ) is the nearest airport to the hotel and is an hour and thirty minutes drive away. Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) is two hours and fifteen minutes by car.

The hotel has two restaurants, a bar, and a lounge. TROFEO Italian Cuisine is an all-day dining restaurant that serves Italian food as its name suggests while Robata OYAMA is a Japanese restaurant. BAR 4563 is a speakeasy-style bar that offers crafted cocktails and Japanese whisky.
There is a fitness centre, an indoor heated pool, and a spa with six treatment rooms on the hotel’s premises.

Fuji Speedway Hotel – The Unbound Collection by Hyatt is a category 6 World of Hyatt participating property with a standard room award at 25,000 points a night.
Grand Hyatt Shenzhou Peninsula
The second Grand Hyatt Hotel in Hainan, after Grand Hyatt Sanya Haitang Bay Resort and Spa, Grand Hyatt Shenzhou Peninsula opened on 30 October 2022.
Location
The seafront resort is located on Shenzhou Peninsula, on the east coast of Hainan Island with a tropical climate and clear blue waters. In addition to the various water sports activities available, the resort is close to attractions such as the Shenzhou Peninsula Lighthouse, Bali Village as well as The Dunes Golf Club, offering something for everyone.
Qionghai Bo’ao Airport (BAR) is the nearest airport to the resort and is an hour’s drive away. Sanya Phoenix International Airport (SYX) is an hour and forty-five minutes by car.

The resort has three restaurants and a lobby lounge. Yu is the resort’s all-day dining restaurant that showcases Cantonese and Hainanese cuisines. Pool House is a poolside restaurant near the beach and offers grilled meats as well as signature cocktails. The upcoming Luigi’s is an Italian restaurant with a bar area.
A 24-hour fitness centre, three pools, and a Grand Club lounge accessible by club room guests and World of Hyatt Globalist members are some of the facilities available at the resort.
