New Boutique and Luxury Hotel Openings Round up: January 2022

Once again, we have come to our monthly new hotel roundups, and we will be sharing with you six boutique and luxury hotels that have opened around the globe in January 2022.

Conrad Tulum Riviera Maya

Conrad Tulum Riviera Maya has opened on 18 January 2022 in the Riviera Maya. The resort is the first Conrad branded property in the Mexican Caribbean by Hilton and the second Conrad property in Mexico, after Conrad Punta de Mita.

Location

Conrad Tulum Riviera Maya is located just north of Tulum, best known for its archaeological site. Being in the Mexican Caribbean means guests have opportunities to partake in water activities such as kayaking, snorkeling, paddle boarding, or simply relax on the private beach. In addition, the resort is close to several attractions in the area, such as Gran Cenote, the UNESCO world heritage site of Sian Ka’an Biosphere, and Tulum archaeological zone. The world-renowned Chichen Itza can be visited as a day trip from the resort. 

The closest airport is Cancun International Airport (CUN), about an hour and a half away by car.

Restaurants and Facilities

The resort has an impressive eleven dining venues in total, with five restaurants and six bars. Arbolea is the hotel’s breakfast venue and offers an international buffet style menu. Autor is open for dinner and offers a curated tasting experience by Chef Jersaí Miranda. Kengai and Ukai are the resort’s Japanese restaurants that are open for dinner. Maratea serves Mediterranean cuisine featuring food from Southern Spain, North Africa, Greece, and Turkey. Chiringuitos, a snack bar; Cafetal, a café; Ultramar, the resort’s pool bar, and Chaak Bar located off the lobby are the other dining venues within the resort.   

There is a fitness centre, five swimming pools, a private beach, and a spa in the resort.

Fairmont Windsor Park

Opening on New Year’s Day 2022, Fairmont Windsor Park is the third Fairmont property under Accor in the United Kingdom, after the historic Savoy Hotel in London, and Fairmont St Andrews in Scotland. Formerly Savill Court Hotel and Spa, the hotel was completely redeveloped before reopening in its current form.

Location

Fairmont Windsor Park is located on the edge of Windsor Great Park, just over an hour’s drive from London. In addition to Windsor Great Park, there are a couple of attractions near the hotel, which include the Savill Garden, Thorpe Park Resort, Legoland Windsor Resort, St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, and Frogmore Cottage.

The closest airport, London Heathrow Airport (LHR) is about a 20 minute drive away.

Fairmont Windsor Park houses seven dining establishments in total, consisting of three restaurants, three bars, and a tea room. MOREISH is the hotel’s breakfast venue and features European and Middle Eastern fusion food in the evenings. 1215 is a fine dining restaurant offering British cuisine. Greens Café is the hotel’s other restaurant which is located in the spa area serving freshly made salads and snacks.

The hotel has a spa and wellness area spanning 2500 sqm (26910 sqft) with facilities such as a spa with 18 treatment rooms, four wellness rooms, a traditional Hammam, a 20m indoor pool, a courtyard hydrotherapy vitality pool, thermal suite, cryotherapy chamber, indoor and outdoor gym, and a hair salon.

Xenodocheio Milos

The first luxury boutique hotel by renowned Greek restaurant Estiatorio Milos, Xenodocheio Milos opened on 15 January 2022 in the capital of Greece.

Location

Located in downtown Athens, opposite the old parliament, its central location ensures that many attractions in the Greek capital are within easy reach. The National Historical Museum, Roman Forum of Athens, Temple of Hephaestus, Acropolis of Athens, Acropolis Museum, Central Municipal Athens Market, and Lycabettus Hill are some of the major attractions that are within walking distance from the hotel. Numerous luxury boutiques and restaurants can be found within the hotel’s vicinity as well.

Metro stations close by include Syntagma station and Panepistimio station.

A branch of Estiatorio Milos is the hotel’s restaurant given the hotel’s ownership. Estiatorio Milos offers Mediterranean cuisine specializing in seafood. The hotel has one other dining venue, Milos bar which also doubles up as the breakfast venue in the morning.

The hotel does not have a pool but does have a 24-hours gym and a spa.

Conrad Shanghai

Housed in Shimao International Plaza, the fifth tallest building in Shanghai; Conrad Shanghai opened its doors on 3^rd January 2022. Formerly the Le Royal Meridien Shanghai, the hotel was reflagged after a revamp as Conrad Shanghai, and it is currently the largest Conrad property in Asia.

Location

Conrad Shanghai is located on the edge of People’s Square, a major transport hub in the heart of the city. The city’s major shopping street, Nanjing Road is right by the hotel and several attractions such as Shanghai Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art Shanghai, and Shanghai Grand Theatre are within walking distance.

People’s Square station is the closest metro station to the hotel.

Restaurants and Facilities

Four restaurants and a bar can be found within the hotel. Lane 11 is the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant featuring an international menu. Copper Bistro is a modern French restaurant while Asador Mediterranean Dining & Bar specializes in Mediterranean food and traditional grill techniques. Enclave Eight serves a variety of regional Chinese cuisines from Shanghainese to Cantonese.

The hotel has an executive lounge on the 44^th floor which offers complimentary breakfast, snacks, and evening cocktails. The lounge can be accessed by executive room and suite guests as well as Hilton Diamond members.

An indoor heated pool, fitness center, hot whirlpool, sauna, and steam rooms are some of the facilities in the hotel.

Mandarin Oriental Shenzhen

Mandarin Oriental Shenzhen, housed on the upper floors of the 79 storey tall UpperHills, has opened on 20 January 2022.

Location

Mandarin Oriental Shenzhen is located in the Futian business district, central Shenzhen. Being in the heart of the city, a number of the city’s sights are nearby, such as Guan Shanyue Art Museum, and Shenzhen Concert Hall just to name a few. Guests can also take a quick day trip to Hong Kong via the high-speed rail, with the high-speed rail station a short metro ride away from the hotel.

The closest metro station is Lianhuacun station, a 15 minutes walk from the hotel.

The hotel has eight restaurants and bars. Bazaar is the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant featuring international cuisine. Some of the other dining establishments include The Bay by Chef Fei, a fine dining Cantonese restaurant; Opus 388 which offers premium seafood and meats, Rin, a high end teppanyaki Japanese restaurant, and Spanish restaurant Tapas 77.

The hotel has a club lounge, The Mandarin Club, that is located on level 78, offering complimentary coffee, tea, soft drinks, and snacks during operation hours as well breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening cocktails. The club lounge can be accessed by club room and suite guests.

Facilities wise, there is a fitness centre within the hotel’s premises, a 20-meter indoor lap pool, and a spa.

Hotel Okura Kyoto Okazaki Bettei

Opening its doors on 20 January 2022, Hotel Okura Kyoto Okazaki Bettei is Kyoto’s second hotel from Okura Hotels & Resorts, after Hotel Okura Kyoto.

Location

Hotel Okura Kyoto Okazaki Bettei is located in eastern Kyoto, one of the most picturesque parts of the city. There are numerous temples and shrines within the hotel’s vicinity and some of the major attractions within walking distance include Heian Shrine, Nanzen-Ji temple, Kyoto city zoo, and the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto.

Keage Station, around 20 minutes walk from the hotel is the closest metro station.

The hotel features 60 guest rooms in total, including 8 suites as follows:

Restaurants and Facilities

Hotel Okura Kyoto Okazaki Bettei has just one restaurant within its premises. Nouvelle Epoque is an all-day dining venue and features Japanese French fusion cuisine.

Being a small luxury property, the hotel does not have a pool or fitness centre.
