We’re now at the end of February and it is time for our monthly new hotel roundups again. This has been a slow month and there are only four new boutique and luxury hotels around the globe which we will be sharing for February 2022.
StarDome Peru
StarDome Peru, a unique geodesic dome luxury boutique hotel has opened on 1 February 2022. The hotel is run in partnership with the local Quechua community and offers an opportunity to fully take in the indigenous Quechuan cultural experience.
Location
StarDome Peru is located in Peru’s Sacred Valley, between UNESCO world heritage sites Cusco and Machu Picchu, and is only accessible via a private road. In addition to being close to the two UNESCO world heritage sites, Inca archaeological site Ollantaytambo and the Pumamarca ruins are also within easy reach from the hotel.
The closest airport is Alejandro Velasco Astete Cusco International Airport (CUZ), about two hours away by car.

Restaurants and Facilities
There is one restaurant on site, Apu, which offers a traditional breakfast and showcases the local cuisine.
Being a boutique hotel, there isn’t a fitness centre or swimming pool within the property’s premises. However, the hotel does have a StarDeck, with its floor to ceiling glass walls offering guests an opportunity for a stargazing experience.

Pendry Park City
Opening its doors on 15 February 2022, Pendry Park City is the sixth property in Pendry Hotels & Resorts’ portfolio, a brand by Montage Hotels & Resorts.
Location
Pendry Park City is located in Canyons Village, Park City, Utah, a city that is well known as a skiing destination. A ski in ski out resort, guests would be able to enjoy a variety of winter sports, such as skiing and snowboarding. Being a year round mountain resort, activities such as fly-fishing, horseback riding, river rafting, and golf are available in the warmer months.
The closest airport, Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) is about an hour and 15 minute drive away.

Pendry Park City houses four dining establishments, consisting of a restaurant, two lounges, and a bar. KITA is the resort’s signature restaurant and features an extensive Japanese menu. Disco Pizza is a family friendly pizzeria. Aprés Pendry and Pool House are the hotel’s lobby and rooftop lounges respectively.
The resort has an outdoor rooftop pool, a 24-hour fitness center, a kids club, and a spa with six treatment rooms.

Shangri-La Jeddah
Housed in the tallest building in Jeddah, 64 storey Burj Assila, Shangri-La Jeddah opened its doors on 22nd February 2022. This marks the debut of Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts in Saudi Arabia.
Location
Located on the new Jeddah Waterfront, Shangri-La Jeddah is a short walk away from one of the most popular malls, the Red Sea Mall. The hotel is also a short distance away from the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, which is the venue of the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix. UNESCO world heritage site Al Balad is a 35 minute drive away.
King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) is about a 30 minute drive away.

Shangri-La Jeddah has two restaurants and a café within its premises. The Waterfront Kitchen is the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant and offers an international menu outside breakfast hours. Shang Palace serves modern Chinese cuisine while specialty coffee and exquisitely crafted patisseries can be found at COPA.
The hotel has a wellness club with separate men’s and women’s facilities. These include a gym, ice fountain, steam and sauna, whirlpool, and an outdoor swimming pool for male guests. The hotel also has a spa and a kids club.

ANA InterContinental Appi Kogen Resort
The first luxury resort in Tohoku, Japan, ANA InterContinental Appi Kogen Resort opened on 25 February 2022. The resort is part of three IHG properties that were built or acquired in the past three months in the Appi Kogen precinct under IHG Hotels & Resorts.
Location
As the resort’s name suggests, the property is located in the Appi Kogen precinct in Hachimantai City. Appi Kogen is known for having one of the largest ski resorts in Japan, where guests can partake in winter sports. Otherwise, being located close to several mountains provides ample hiking opportunities in the summer.
Iwate Hanamaki Airport (HNA), the closest airport, is about an hour and 10 minute drive away from the resort. Alternatively, JR Hanawa line Appi Kogen Station is 6 mins away by car.

Restaurants and Facilities
ANA InterContinental Appi Kogen Resort has one restaurant and a bar. SHIRATUSYU is the resort’s all-day signature restaurant, featuring Japanese French cuisine with a farm to table concept. MOCCO is a bar with a wide selection of Japanese whisky and spirits.
The resort does not have a pool but does have two traditional onsen Japanese baths. In addition, there is a fitness centre and a spa.
The Club InterContinental lounge can be found as is the norm in Intercontinental hotels and all guests in this resort have access to the lounge.

IHG now uses dynamic pricing and thus award redemption mirrors the revenue rates closely. We did a quick search and it seems that 85,000 points per night is the lowest redemption rate we can find.
